General Mighty no. 9 Discussions / Call's Design

Quote from: iXerroStill, with all this color changing of Pink Call, I'm curious what it would look like if Pink Call and Roll Call swapped color schemes.

I've gone through the liberty to do just that and switch the colours!

Personally, I really really love how Roll Pink Call (top right) looks with these colours, but Pink Roll Call (top left) doesn't look as appealing, in my opinion.

Quote from: Mighty No. 9I think the difference in attitudes and clothing is what makes it so great with Roll-Call, the contrast, the sheer ridiculousness! no need to be uber realistic guys. Roll has appeared in various fighting games in the past and she could kick butt, Roll-Call could as well, remember they are robots and she has an awesome dog companion too.

PS. Becks goggles seem to be a Xel related thing, I doubt Call will transform, all that might be done by the Dog or the back pack.

Remember this is a game about a hero like Megaman 1, not a hero and heroine like Megaman ZX. To me Pink-Call fits in her own game not Mighty No. 9.

Who knows how limited that Co-op mode will be.

Are you serious? 'Sheer ridiculousness' is the worst thing Mighty No. 9 needs. This is Keiji Inafune's new start; he needs a solid standing with characters that not only makes sense for their position, but are not just a copy-edit-paste of your beloved Megaman.

Even if Call is not able to transform, the need for fighting will be necessary, as proven with the co-op concept. The fact that it would even be possible confirms that she would have combat abilities. 'Roll' Call is not a logical choice for such purpose, as her design is clearly pacifist in nature. Pink Call on the other hand would be capable of fighting well on her own.

I am aware they are robots, but do you remember why humans invented them? For a sole purpose. If the purpose of Call, Beck's partner, includes combat, then humanity will build a robot with that idea in mind. She looks serious and ready to aid anywhere, really. 'Roll' Call clearly wasn't designed in mind to be anything but aesthetically cute. Therefore, useless to Beck in his purpose, which is pure combat.

You're not coming up with any good reasons for 'Roll' Call to be the chosen design, and instead, keep telling us that we're fussing over it too much when this discussion was meant to discuss such matters. Clearly the pros for Pink Call overrule the pros of 'Roll' Call, but you are not even acknowledging the points we have brought up. You're being very rude.

Quote from: EthrasWhat are some arguments that supporters of 'Roll' Call have for her?

From what I've seen, it's mainly just full on nostalgia making people want the classic Roll style look. I don't blame them really as this game promises to be the game Capcom couldn't give people and people are projecting their dreams, wishes, etc onto Mighty No. 9.

Quote from: iXerroI'm not a supporter of 'Roll' Call, but I can see why people love her. She's reminiscent of Roll, of course. These people want Mighty No. 9 to be as close to Megaman as it can, they don't want too much change. Nostalgia aside, she does have a nice design for a minor character; she's really simple and cute. But still, people don't seem to get that her design isn't ideal for fighting. Even after a Beck & Call Online Co-op stretch goal was announced, people still want the housekeeper design. People need to forget about their nostalgia boners for a minute and look at the characters for their designs, and completely forget that Roll existed.

Adding onto what you just said, having an unbiased look when choosing character designs is vital for picking what is best for a series in the long run. If such 'nostalgia' is the only reason 'Roll' Call has to offer, than she is a bad choice for what purpose she is meant to have; Beck's combat partner. The fact that Pink Call has so many more promising features makes the choice for Roll very obvious to any unbiased onlooker with a decent sense of logic which is the better design.

I'm still willing to hear other arguments, if anyone else has anything to say on her.

Quote from: MechaGSSorry if it seemed that way, I wasn't trying to say anything about your post I was just putting forward a personal point and it wasn't meant as a means of brushing you aside. :)

What I'm trying to say is, while I do care about the eventual design (it would be impossible not to care), I'm not going to take part in the current comment war taking place on the Kickstarter site.

I'll wait for them to open the proper participation events and vote as I see fit as I'd imagine you'll do the same and we'll let the best Call win based on proper votes, not wasted comments.

Once again, sorry if I made you feel you were being targeted. That was never my intention.

Your personal point was irrelevant to my comment, which is why I felt you were insinuating to push me aside. It seems I was mistaken. Apology accepted, however do mind where you decide to say things. At times intent may become unclear.

As all of your other mentions are agreed on, (and yes, the kickstarter comments are at times a flurry of madness) I believe I will move on and ask an inquiry I'm most curious on.

What are some arguments that supporters of 'Roll' Call have for her?

Quote from: EthrasThe fact that 'nostalgia' is the leading argument of why 'Roll' Call should be picked is weak. Pink Call has so much more potential for being useful to Beck, I can't fathom why people don't seem to see this.

I think the issue is that most people see what they want to see and ignore the rest. That's why I'm not letting the choice get to me because I know that the one I choose in the end is liable to lose.

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride instead of getting into these design tiffs. :)

That is exactly what they're doing, and I'm trying to bring logic to the choice, unlike others. Why else would I bother to bring up any points at all? Your views of not bothering when you say 'you know you will lose' is exactly why you will lose. People don't realize that every vote counts, and each person who decides not to bother skews the results. It's important to vote, as a right, and sad to say that poses an issue in the offline world as well. Please change your perspective.

Back on topic, seeing your final comment, I am bewildered as to why you decided to say anything. Tell me, why are you even in this discussion if you don't care for the designs? The discussion is titled 'Call's Design'. If that isn't why you're here, which you clearly imply, you contradict your intentions, trying to brush me aside with that comment. Don't do that. I have the right to my opinion as well.

Quote from: "iXerro"It seems most people are rooting for "Roll" Call. But the runner up favorite among the fans seems to be the pink haired Call, and I personally hope the pink haired Call becomes official. It'd be great to have a partner that doesn't follow stereotypical female designs; Call should be less "feminine" and "cutesy" and more someone that looks like she can dish out some pain on some Mighty No's. Pink haired Call's design fits more as Beck's partner as she looks more like a fighter and adventurer like Aile, instead of "Roll" Call's design comparable to that of original Roll's design, the design of a housekeeper.

Now that the possible co-op play with Beck and Call has been announced, it's clearly obvious that Call will need to be combat ready. In agreement to the fact that she doesn't follow stereotypical female designs, which makes her a strong female character, seeing as she has a bodysuit for all of her skin, she is more suited for battle due to having protection, unlike 'Roll' Call, who has bare skin and will be more at risk for injury. You don't go into battle wearing a skirt or dress, folks, not in Mighty. No. 9, where being a strong robot is of the most importance. Do you really see 'Roll' Call going into battle? Because I don't.

The fact that 'nostalgia' is the leading argument of why 'Roll' Call should be picked is weak. Pink Call has so much more potential for being useful to Beck, I can't fathom why people don't seem to see this.
