This thread is for talking about things that killed your hype or ruined your expectations of certain games, and titles that disappointed you.

Examples:

Dragon's Dogma combat videos killed my hype for the game for being too simple.

Got disappointed by FFXIII and XIII-2's awful plot developments
Spoiler
and how everything didn't matter in the end because the ending of LR:FFXIII is a gigantic deus ex machina and makes the saga obsolete

Elder Scrolls Online.  Very disappointed with what it became.  It looks dull, lifeless, and just not at all fun.  I don't know how 2 more months of more development time can save it, but I sure hope the Beta doesn't represent what is to come..otherwise, ESO will be the biggest let down of my gaming history.

So lemme rant about Ocarina of Time for a sec. I'm not going to delve too much on the gameplay though.

Spoiler
Ocarina of Time as a whole disappointed me but its hugest flaw is how it failed to create an engaging atmosphere in nearly all aspects. The Zelda series never felt particularly complex when it came to storyline and characters so I wasn't expecting much to begin with even though I hoped that being an exception to this 'rule' was what made Ocarina of Time so loved by the fans.

First of all, the game starts with Ganondorf chasing after Zelda and the Deku Tree calling Link for help in its dying breaths but the moment you gain control of Link, you're in a happy little forest filled with kids with a silly fairy shouting at you at every single opportunity. But, because of the cutscene earlier, you know you need to help the Deku Tree, and fast. You make your way towards it and bam, some retard won't let you pass until you BUY the friggin' shield and explore the area to grab the sword.

Then, when you become an adult, you see that Hyrule Castle Town is pretty much destroyed just so you know the world has a changed a lot during those seven years. You go to Hyrule Filed and no, the place's as empty as ever and Kakariko's village is pretty much the same. Okay, Goron Town is deserted but the structures are just fine and Zora's Domain has only one frozen inhabitant, the King. You don't get to see countless Zora's frozen solid in cursed ice. The game fails to bring the idea that the world is destroyed under Ganon's rule. OoT's prequel, A Link to the Past did it so well with the Dark World so that the overworlds felt similar in structures/locations but at the same time, opposite versions of one another. Past and Present in Ocarina of Time are pretty much the same that, if it weren't for Link looking different with age, anyone could mistake one time for the other.

I thought that, for the first time, I'd able to see a glimpse of Link/Zelda/Ganondorf's personalities but the dialogue in this game is dull, just dull. I can understand Link since he's pretty much mute but there's no excuse for Zelda and Ganondorf. Zelda AND Kaepora Gaebora are Captain Obvious/Mr. Exposition for a simple storyline with simple concepts as if they're insulting your intelligence. Ganondorf doesn't come off as the evil incarnate and his speeches are mostly silly, voice acting or not. I swear it sounded like he came up with "you only succeeded because I wanted to" excuses whenever you triumphed over him. If anything, he sounded like a silly but friendly rival, which doesn't suit him at all. And please don't get me started on Princess Ruto and King Zora.

And when you actually need to gather information on how to proceed through the game, it knows how to make everything sound complex and cryptic. How would I know I could catch fishes with just the bottle, considering there's a fishing game which would lead you to assume that, in order to get a fish, you'd need to do so through the minigame or somehow gain a fishing rod of your own. But then, why would you think you need a fish to begin with? Sure, there's a Zora that mentions that Ruto fed Jabu Jabu, but then there's a sign in front of it that says not to disturb him. How is giving it a fish disturbing him? I don't know but the first thing I thought was to bomb its face (since bombs are what you get from the previous dungeon) or maybe climb on top of him and do something, since its fins are easily accessible by water. Why would I think I need a single, puny fish to make it open its damn mouth?

And while not totally related to what i've been talking about up until now, Ganondorf's forms are so easy. final Zelda bosses tend to be a wakeup call that things are going to get serious so I was pissed when I needed to get rid of one of my Blue Potions to make my way through the dungeon (you needed the Blue Fire) because I expected I'd need all the potions I could have... except I used none in the final battle.

Overall, given its importance in the official timeline, the game fails to bring out even the most basic story elements to make it feel worthy of such a spot.

I'd have to agree on the above post.  After LTTP, Zelda games were less entertaining for me.

Nice summary, Shiroyami.

Thanks for reminding me of that bloody fish.

Modern Ninja Gaiden 3, all of it.

Before seeing the first videos i was like "I know it's going to be inferior to Itagaki's NG, but at least it should be like Ninja Gaiden Sigma...", but i was proved wrong.

Don't ever forget the precious time you've wasted watching the damn fish wiggling his ass out of the way for ages, unable to skip the beautiful sight. That, and I wish Jabu Jabu's stomach acid was strong enough to melt Princess Ruto. Navi is nowhere near as irritant as that brat.
