So the first topic in the gaming corner is yep a Mega Man topic! What is your favorite series in the franchise? Who are your favorite characters? Post anything and everything you like about Mega Man! While Mega man wasn't the first game I played I absolutely loved it when my best friend would play Mega Man 8. Then he introduced me to Mega Man X4, and I fell in love with the series. Sure both games had pretty bad voice acting but both are my favorites from each series respectively. The soundtracks are superb, and the gameplay is phenomenal. Zero is my favorite character from the X series, while Bass is my favorite from the Classic series. I also enjoy the Legends series and was extremely disappointed when the third installment was canceled. But hey we are getting Mighty No. 9 now, maybe it'll wake Capcom up and at least try to make a decent Mega man game soon. Also how do you feel about Mega Man showing up in the next Super Smash Bros? I think it's cool they added him to the game. ^_^

I'm not sure if Mighty No. 9 will have any impact on the Mega Man franchise. The only way I see it as a possibility is if the game becomes a success, which might convince Capcom to bring in a quality new game faster in order to retain Mega Man fans (if they do nothing, Capcom will lose the vast major of the Mega Man fan base for good, which in turn will further dissolve their reputation and in turn will hurt Capcom more than then think).

TheRaven

I could see this happening though, I have a feeling MN9 will be pretty successful and Capcom will try to release new Mega Man games. If this was to happen I would be pretty happy, since we could both have new games for both franchises. ^_^ But we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds in store for both Mighty No. 9 and Mega Man.

NinjablazerZero

While I do think MN9 will be successful enough to revive MM at Capcom, I definitely do not want it to happen. We all see Capcom's rep these days and the way they handle their games, policies and franchises. If anything, they'll bring back MM for nothing but the money they will get from it, which will leads to such a bad, low quality game that will only hurt the series rather than help.

As much as I love MM, it needs to stay dead. Without Inafune running things, Capcom can only ruin Megaman, and that is something that I do not want to witness, and I'm sure neither do you.

You know... I've never thought about it this way because it's been so long since a good blue bomber game that I've just been wanting one regardless but I know what you mean NinjablazerZero.

I do think it will be hard for both series to co-exist. Eventually one of them (if they both go back into production, as in MN9 gets a sequel and MM11 gets announced) will have to die and the fans will choose which it is. But without Inafune at the helm for Mega Man, I'd much rather MN9 is the survivor.

I believe that there is room for both Mega Man and Mighty No. 9 in the future. If both of them can differentiate enough from each other, they can co-exist and act as a sort of competition, which can only be good for both series. Plus I don't believe any franchise can fill the void Mega Man has left and this includes Mighty No. 9.

I also believe that Mega Man can survive and make good games without Inafune. Gunpei Yokoi may have died, but the Metroid franchise received an extraordinary revival by Retro. Mega Man doesn't need Inafune to make great games again, they need Capcom to organize themselves and figure out what is right for the franchise. And I believe that eventually, that time will come, even if takes us a decade since the last game to do so.

MechaGS

I don't trust Capcom enough with their franchises at this point. They keep shoving DLC onto the discs and doing other under-handed tactics to get their way and it's just not on.

What really needs to happen is Capcom needs to strip itself off the old men that run it and get some new blood in to sort the place out.

P.S. Sorry if I sound a little... over-reactive to Capcom but they have been bugging me for a bit now and I would like to see some changes made to their infrastructure.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't think they can't co-exist. They definitely can. And it's not that I think only Inafune is capable of a good MM game, as I'm sure that there is someone, somewhere in the industry that can do Megaman just as good. What I'm saying is I don't trust Capcom with it, and I don't believe anyone there is capable of doing it. Capcom at present has obtained the Brown Finger. I don't that finger anywhere near Megaman. And honestly, I don't think Capcom is capable of getting it together and organizing themselves anytime soon. Capcom is gonna need to take a huge blow to turn themselves around, and that blow ain't gonna be something on the horizon.

That said, I don't trust Capcom to make a good game anymore.

TheRaven

Unfortunately I believe Ninja is correct on the subject of Capcom making a decent Mega Man game. While I don't play Resident Evil nor Marvel vs. Capcom (i'm not much of a Marvel fan honestly so that's why I never got into it...) my co worker told me both games pretty much sucked. So Capcom didn't just ruin MM, but some of their other franchises as well. I suppose at this point we'll just wait and see if Capcom responds to Inafune's new franchise.

I do agree with you on this, but this is why I say that Capcom needs to get their gears together and soon.

I'll write a big post about what could happen to Mega Man depending on the outcome of Mighty No. 9. Been thinking about this game ever since.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them sort their stuff out because they hold a lot of great franchises under their belts.

I don't want to see them go the way THQ did in the end with their overspending and lack of consumer knowledge.

Ok, so I get the feeling this will only attract some 'cool story, bro' responses but I feel as if I should share this. I've owned Mega Man 9 since 2008 and I have always, and I mean always, sucked at it. But somehow yesterday I beat 5 of the game's Robot Masters. I still have no idea how it happened.

Sounds like me when I finally beat a robot master. After the first boss in a mega man game, it tends to get easier until you reach the fortress stages because of getting screws, E-tanks, and Weapons making getting through other stages more easily. Then the fortress stages show up, which are designed for you having all of the weapons and some E-tanks.

Often after beating a Robot Master I've found myself farming for screws on Concrete Man's stage, getting a game over so I can save, then buying a bunch of E-tanks and taking on the next Robot Master. It's basically the Mega-Man-For-Non-NES-Kids-Cycle.

It's a great feeling when you actually get that amazing run! I've had a few of them over the years. I'm not the greatest Mega Man gamer, but it's moments like that which are truly awesome.

I'll have to go back to MM9. Got it on PS3 so will need to install it. :)
