Let's talk about difficulty, shall we?

Where would you like the game to fall in the difficulty spectrum? Personally I hope that it's hard as hell and brutally unforgiving but I understand that a lot of people might not enjoy that so I would also like different difficulty modes so that people can play the game in a way that's comfortable for them. What do you all think?

To be honest, I want the game to fall right inthe footsteps of Mega Man 9. That game, at the time, was a breath of fresh air. It was a throwback to the NES days. The game was very challenging at first. I remember struggling just to get to ANY of the robot masters lair for quite some time but slowly got better with practice. Eventually I was able to speed run a lot of the levels (a competition that a few of my pals had over on The Megas' forum). I feel that Mega Man 9 was just right. It wasn't too easy to breeze through on your first try but wasn't difficult enough that you could never get past a certain spot.

I too would love the game to be difficult, sort of like the X series level of difficulty. With some great practice it's very easy to figure out each boss' weakness as well as their pattern.

I think the difficulty should be up there with Megaman Unlimited, which was pretty damn hard until you got used to it

Satsy

I already expect this to be a game I will never be good at. Odd as it is, that's just the way I like it.

That sounds like a good aspiration to have Satsy.

I like some good difficulty in my games but maybe just this once they should a difficulty choice for younger people to get into the game. :) I want to see as many people as possible playing Mighty No. 9!

Mighty No. 9

I want it to be as hard as the Megaman/X/Zero/Ect.. games, no less no more.

I hear you on this, but I still think it's a chance to get people who aren't accustomed to the game style into the game by offering maybe a "beginners" mode. That way, younger or less experienced gamers can sink their teeth in and get used to the up-curve.

Just an idea, but I think it would make it much more appealing to that sort of gamer. :D

Mighty No. 9

I agree, the ideal would be Beginner, Normal and Hard mode, all 3 modes at the start game screen.

But I leave all that to Comcept they know what they're doing heheh.

Mighty No. 9

Over the years, games have appealed to a wider range of players, and though many of them will understand how to overcome a sidescrolling platformer, I'm sure there'll be a lot of people that want to play Mighty No. 9 who just flat out won't be good at it. But that doesn't mean they can't enjoy it. The game should be challenging, but not frustrating on the first play through. Perhaps instead of a new mode entirely, there's a "Handicapped" like option, (I think Capcom did something like this in some Megaman game?) where spikes are covered, enemies are weaker, and more items appear or something like that. That way you can enjoy the game and its challenge, but when you get to a point you spend hours on and can't get past, just switch handicap on, pass on by, turn it off and enjoy the game again.

I'm sure the extra modes they're including from the stretch goals are going to be wicked hard, a little gift to die hard Megaman fans, or just platforming fans in general. So I don't think we need to worry about it not being hard enough for us that are used to these games. But we also can't be mad if the standard mode is easier than we expected.

I think you might be referring to the remakes of the first few games for the Playstation which added navigation mode making it easier for beginners. I think extra modes would be pretty cool, it'll help beginners get a feel for the game playing it on a easy mode, but then gamers who want a challenge could immediately play through the game on a harder difficulty. :)
