Laharl has now been crowned Overlord of his Netherworld and has taken his father's place on the throne. However, the demons of his Netherworld do not respect him or his authority. Also, a group of demons called the Krichevskoy Faction are trying to usurp him and put someone that they find to be a more suitable leader on the throne.

Compounding the issue is the sudden appearance of rapidly multiplying Celestial Flowers that are changing the atmosphere of the Netherworld. The Krichevskoy Faction blames Laharl for the sudden appearance of the flowers, believing it to be an act of aggression from the angels in retaliation for the events that occurred in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

After a run in with the Krichevskoy Faction, Laharl wakes up the next morning to find that he is in a female body (a.k.a Laharl-Chan) due to unknown circumstances. Besides him, Etna changes colors, thus becoming 2P Etna. It is explained by Etna that the Celestial Flowers from Celestia are affecting the demons in the Netherworld. On the other hand, Flonne and Sicily are not affected, because they are both angels.

My Thoughts:

Nippon Ichi are a company I've followed for a good number of years now and I'm happy to finally see a continuation of the original Disgaea title in the works. Of course, it's an anniversary title so I'm expecting a lot from it come release in Europe. (we get it before the Americans!)

D2 looks like it's going to be as zany as the first and that's a good thing. Let the good times roll!

I'm still struggling on Disgaea 3, hehe! It's a great game but it is a real pain when it comes to grinding, plus I've got Disgaea 4 ready for when I beat 3, so it'll be a long time before I buy D2.

I've played and finished every Disgaea game now. Longest save was 653 hours in the original Disgaea. I'm a bit of a Korean though, I love grinding! :D

I think Disgaea D2 will eclipse the rest, especially with it going back to it's roots. Plus, it's the 20th anniversary game, so that should mean they're throwing their weight into it.

I'm going to restart Disgaea 3 I think. I loved the creepy butler!

Oh, you mean Jeffrey. (Fun fact: my copy of Disgaea 3 is signed by the voice of Mao) I don't think there's a single character in Disgaea I don't like, except maybe Tink in Disgaea 2. My favourite Disgaea 3 character is Almaz. He gets loads of crap and he deserves none of it, and he always gets roped into Mao's schemes.

Almaz becomes really powerful, that's the trade-off for Mao's crap I'd imagine. :P

Ahh yes, lovable Tink the floating frog. Yeah, I'd bin him if I had the chance, then again Disgaea 2 was the worst one to me. Wasn't a fan of most of it.

Personally I liked 4 the best, though the Axel chapter I found incredibly boring to play.  D1/2 I enjoyed as well though.  D3 I never played, and didn't hear good things about it so I skipped it.  Personal favorite characters are Flonne, Valvatorez, and Artina.

As for Disgaea D2, I'm very hesitant to buy it after seeing the screenshots and videos.  Did you ever wind up getting it?  If so how was it?

I did grab it and I'll refer to it as Disgaea 1 part 2 but in a different dimension. Basically, throw away the ending of Disgaea 1 and you're basically back on-track.

I'd recommend grabbing it on the cheap if you can. It's a good game (and I'm happy they made one with the original chars again) but it's missing many of the features that Disgaea 4 revolutionized.

The battle grid works a hell of a lot better though, that much I will say.

Swan Dive

Alright, I think I'll wait for it to go down in price.  I had a feeling it couldn't beat D4.

Ryusei

It's been like an eternity since i played a Disgaea game, i see NIS has finally upgraded the visuals.

Swan Dive

There is a remake coming for Disgaea 4 on the VITA soon, I'm a bit aggravated since it will have new features..

The only thing (special?) I've ever heard about DD2 was the fact that Laharl is transformed into a woman at one point.

Yeah, that's part of the storyline where the Netherworld goes a little haywire. Is a pretty funny section really. :D

Swan Dive

Reminds me when Etna and Flonne switched bodies in the anime, much laughs to be had there!  Did they add any new monsters (not including major villains), or is it still all the same enemies again?

MechaGS

It's a shame that the anime was more for kids than actual fans of the series. I have it all on DVD but I only bought it for collector's sake.
