Quote from: "Beck"Not great. I think I just broke another laptop (second one this year :/). For the past few weeks my computer would turn off as soon as I put the charger into it. Now it won't stay on for more than five minutes. I don't know anything about fixing computers and my dad will be pissed if I tell him that I messed up another laptop.

Maybe some of us on here can help. Here's a list of things that may help us diagnose your issue:-

- Manufacturer and model number

- Windows version.

- Specification.

- Do you carry it around and unplug it a lot?

- Do you sit with it on your knees perhaps or on a bed? (somewhere warm in general).

- Are the fans spinning?

- Does it only happen while gaming or using heavy software?

- Have you tried the charger in but without the battery?

You could also try running PC Wizard and choose Voltage, Temperature and Fans in the application (ignore the side adverts in it) and if you're OK with posting up the stats from it, do so. It may also shed some light on what's going on.

It's a Dell model number pp18L that's running windows Xp. I don't carry it around that much and I unplug the charger when I'm not using the computer. I sit with it on my bed and turns off whenever I turn it on. I think the fans are spinning and I haven't tried it with the charger in and no battery. I think this website has the specs: http://us.hardware.info/productinfo/256 ... itude-d630

If it's turning off and you're sitting with it on your bed, it's probably overheating the CPU and going into fail-safe mode where it turns off to save the parts from damage.

Try not using it on your bed for a bit, maybe on a more stable surface and see if it continues to act up. If it keeps doing it, you'd need to test the temperatures to see what's having the most issues.

Since you're CPU is both your CPU and Graphics Card in that machine, I'd imagine it gets rather warm regardless. If it does turn out to be a heating issue, you could get a powered laptop fan that goes across the bottom of it. It's like a small tray but not sure how affective they are.

If worst comes to worst, there might already be some damage to the sensors or CPU. You would need to take it to a repair shop.

I am currently tired and I feel sorry for my girl she's sick so I have to take care of her. At least it's just a cold and nothing too bad but I don't like seeing her sick. :( Also I had a very stressful day at work and had tons of issues while hauling frozen/dairy pallets into both the freezer and cooler and I usually never have that much of an issue with pulling them into the cooler. >_<

MechaGS

Sounds like one heck of a day Raven. At least you can chill a little now and I hope your girlfriend feels better soon. :D

TheRaven

Right now I am excited because we finally reached the console goal for MN9! I'm also a bit nervous as I always get nervous before getting a hair cut, I dunno why though. :V

Wildspark

I've been getting more and more depressed all day.

TheRaven

:( I'm sorry to hear that Wildspark. Usually what I do to cheer me up is play some video games or listen to awesome upbeat music. Hope there is something that can cheer you up. As for me i'm dreading going back to work, as it's after 7 p.m. here and the day is basically done. :\ And I feel much more comfortable since I got a hair cut though. :D

Thanks. Maybe your won't be that bad today.

I Hope whatever's getting you down isn't too bad. :)

tailszero

Tired. I just mowed my front and back yards.

TheRaven

I am pretty tired myself, I got to clock in early at work though and got to go home earlier than expected so that was a nice surprise for sure. :) I'm also sort of thirsty as well. xD

MechaGS

I think we're all feeling a tired today it seems. :) I'm hungry, but it's way too late to eat now... :(

I am extremely tired again. xD Also I think one of my co-workers who is a guy is cute. o_o He's the only guy that I think is attractive, I thought I was supposed to be a straight trans guy. :V He doesn't like Sonic though, wtf?

He doesn't like Sonic? Better off not knowing him then (joking of course). :P

I'm a little stressed out. I'm leaking money and it feels like I'm not getting a break at the moment. Worst thing is, it's nearly the end of September and the next few months usually get a little busy.

I'm just happy that I've got a few games to help take my mind off things at the moment. One thing at a time I keep telling myself. :becklaughing

NinjablazerZero

I am in a slightly depressed rage...

I applied to like, three places for a job, and not one has called me back. And I don't have a car, so I can't go very far, so my options for job hunting are incredibly limited. So I'm depressed I can't find a job.

On top of that, so many things I want to buy are cropping up. It's like the world is mocking me, knowing I don't have cash, so it's making tons of things I want so it can mock me about how I can't buy them. So that's making me angry.

On the plus side, my roommate, who's never in the room at all, just told me he considers me a great friend and whatnot, so I kinda feel better now knowing that. Also, he was drunk, and drunk people don't lie, so I know it was true.
