I'm a massive Dragon Ball Z fan. Well, I lie... I'm a massive Dragon Ball fan in general and have recently been picking up the specific sets from America. (Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT from US, Dragon Ball Z collection in the UK)

I tend to go back at least once every two years and watch it all over again. I can't help it as I grew up with them and count them as my favorite anime series of all time.

Does anyone else like the Dragon Ball series?

Weejus

I am a big fan of the Dragonball metaseries, particularly on the videogame side.

Best:

Hyper Dimension (SNES)

Budokai 3 (PS2)

Advanced Adventure (GBA)

The Legacy of Goku II (GBA)

(TLoG2 is the best sequel ever made, i.e. it improves more upon its predecessor than any other game.)

Worst:

The Legacy of Goku (GBA)

Taiketsu (GBA)

DBZ for Kinect (360)

On the anime side, I only own the first two seasons of DBZ and have watched up to the end of the Frieza saga of Dragon Ball Kai during Kix's broadcasts of it. I'm going to wait until Manga UK releases DB and GT in the UK, which they probably will.

Now I know you're a fellow UK'er. That's awesome! :D

I imported my Dragonball and GT collections as I hate how slow Manga UK are but am getting my Z from Manga UK. GT is region-free so you can grab it without hesitation but Dragon Ball is locked to region 1.

I don't really care for the games (other than the Budokai HD collection) but I'll wait and see what they do with the series next generation. :)

Weejus

I watched the first two episodes of GT (Funimation dub, ain't nobody got time for the Blue Water dub) online and I hated it. Generic music (although I do like Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku), stupid plot, ridiculous character designs (Vegeta and his MOOstache is a prominent example, even if it is hilarious), lacked the magic of Dragon Ball/Z.

As far as the Budokai HD collection goes, the only advantage of buying that over the originals is the faster loading times. It's the laziest HD collection ever made. The PAL version still only has the Japanese dub on Budokai 1, why didn't they do what they do with modern DBZ games and put both dubs in and allow the player to choose which one they prefer? The lack of an English dub is made worse by the fact that the subtitles are atrocious. Constant spelling errors ('Freiza' instead if 'Frieza' is a common one), inconsistency between the PS2 and HD fonts, and some weird sentences that any DB fan can tell were NOT present in the original Japanese script (Vegeta exclaims 'Oh, you Aunt Sallies!' at one point during the Cell saga). At least Budokai 3 HD goes by the Budokai 3 Collector's Edition and includes both dubs.

Oh, have you ever seen the 'Big Green' dub? It's the dub Toonami UK used for the DBZ movie broadcasts. I'm unfortunate enough to have 2 of the 3 DVD releases. Sure, the original Funimation dub sucked but Big Green is so bad it's good.

Can't say I have. I typically stay away from the movies as they're not canon and destroy many of the stories plotlines by twisting or just out-right re-writing them.

I agree on the laziness of the Budokai HD collection but I don't mind too much. It's better than the Silent Hill HD collection in terms of functionality and playability so it definitely ain't the worst out there. Then again, I also found the Jak and Daxter HD collection to be lacking and they keep claiming it's been "remastered" which is a blatant lie.

I don't like GT, it was a tack-on but I had to collect it cause I'm a completionist when it comes to collections. :D

Weejus

Stuff like Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX are true HD versions as these were remade from the ground up (although in Kingdom Hearts' case it was because all of KH1's assets had been lost forever).

Also, if you're interested, here's a sample (by that I mean 'more than enough content') of the Big Green dub.

MechaGS

That video has just ruined everything!!! In all seriousness though, that's the worst dub known to mankind.

Don't think I'll be watching any Big Green stuff all the way through, it'd probably drive me mad.

On a side note, the DVDs contain 'virtual trading cards'. Yeah. Anyone can point out how redundant that sounds. Also, the publisher was so desperate that on the back of the box it advertises that the DVD is PS2 compatible. So is pretty much every other DVD ever made. What's worst is that Toonami actually endorsed and broadcasted this dub of the movies.

Maybe this is why Toonami is gone? :P  Seriously, what were they thinking?!

I'll stick to watching the Funimation dubs. Not the greatest dubs ever but over 9000x better than the Big Green crap.

I don't really watch much Dragon Ball, but I do read the manga and play the games a lot. Specifically, I really like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 on PS2 and Wii (Wii version has much better graphics and has a widescreen mode) and I wish that they would make an HD version of it.

NinjablazerZero

I'm a big fan of DBZ. Love the series, though it's been forever since I last watched it. Definitely my top favorite character is Vegeta, with Future Trunks coming in second. Future Trunks gets close cause he has sword.

Though, really, all you really need to understand about the Z series is that everything bad that has ever happened in all the arcs was all Vegeta's fault, either directly or accidentally. Everything. From the very beginning with the Saiyan Saga, all the way up to the end with Buu. Hell, he was even the problem in GT a few time.

Toonami is actually back now. But it only comes on early Sunday morning (like midnight- 6 am or something like that).

We were referring to Toonami UK btw, which is still dead.

My bad

MechaGS

It's all good Wildspark. I still can't believe they got rid of Toonami over here.
