I have an old ROM hack I keep around called "Sonic Redux", which is a S2 ROM hack with new levels, harder bosses and whatnot in mind, but it's ancient I started it back in like 2006

Maybe I'll upload it, not like it's lost to time but it's buggy and somewhat unplayable without level select (good luck beating Aquatic Ruin Zone)

You should post it anyways if you're up to it. I wouldn't mind checking it out. :) The name sounds familiar by the way... Did you ever post this over at Sonic Retro or Sonic Stuff Research Group?

no it's a name I came up with I always lurked those sites, never signed up or posted

it's not an IPS patch mind you but the actual ROM, I got crafty with redux, doign things with objects, like the twisted loop object I used in a section of emerald hill to make it look like sonic was running on the wall amongst other things

also took some inspiration from Sonic unleashed shortly after it released and implemented "moving starts", also the bosses take more hits and the arenas tend to be on the gimmick side (casino night zone's arena is now an actual pinball table complete with gutter)

but it's old like I said and I lacked a lot of hex editing knowledge back then

need to find the emulator on your own and all that other legal crap, it's a 2/10 if you ask me I could do so much better now looking at it

I love seeing Ice Cap Zone's art in place of Mystic Cave Zone's even if it's incomplete. The HUD is pretty cool too, this is pretty impressive given the time you made it. The palettes look much better than the ones I had in my first hack. Ooh boy was that shitty. I don't have the hack anymore, but horrible screenshots do exist online of the hack. Now days I mainly hack the 8-bit Sonic games especially the ones that are built upon Aspect's engine from Sonic 2 8-bit and I'm currently working on a split disassembly of Sonic Chaos my favorite 8-bit Sonic game. :V

well working with importing thanks to eresal's editor

the background tiles would NOT play nice, also I had to manually alter the color palette because a straight port messed with the white color used on the rings' shiny parts and the timer

the theme of the hack was "south island" later down the line, with rusty factory being a "future" of chemical plant after having been abandoned by robotnik, and hill top taking place after the mountain erupted

path swappers were another thing I had problems with

I'll just say this:

Get a counsel and ask them any legal questions you have, not us.

The law is different in every country, and Data has other bounds it follows.

On the other hand, reverse engineering programs is an awesome technical skill practice that needs to exercised frequently. It is highly recommend for improving critical thinking skills.

It is awesome to be able to have branches in programs to explore options never seen before. Anything that makes experiences be plentiful, improves everything.

Spoiler
If you can understand what I just typed, you are way ahead of the games. Ciphers FTW!

I tried the Roll-chan hack a couple weeks ago, it was pretty good.

So I stumbled across screenshots of my very old and terrible Sonic 2 hack. Just a warning, the palettes will most likely hurt your eyes. God I was a horrible hacker back then... But I suppose we all start from somewhere right? (Oh and if you are working on a project but don't want to release a copy of the game or hack you may submit screenshots. :P)

Why I thought that was a brilliant color scheme, I have no clue...

This is crap and is image one of Fire Path Zone.

This one is an improvement but is still crap.

My eyes they burn! Dx It's a miracle I didn't go blind while working on this. :V

For the lols I might make a hack making fun of this one, but with better palettes different layouts and maybe just maybe some ASM edits. (Though I doubt that will even happen since I love to hack the 8-bit games more now.)

the trick is to see how each color affects another

it's why I always kept a back up so while editing in eresal II if I fucked up I could revert

if I could ever get around to fixing the background tile problems plaguing Frozen Cave I'd be able to finish it. Crimson Falls also needs to be reworked as does Charred Mountain, and Rusty Factory needs the most work
